How has SMPS membership been of value to you and your career?
SMPS has been a valuable asset at every phase of my career: from taking a Marketing 101 class when I was just starting out to helping me find a new job and get connected with colleagues that become friends when I moved to NYC from Washington State.

How did you get started with your career?
I started my career as a liberal arts graduate interested in design, writing and cultural anthropology and no idea how to incorporate those interests into a career! I temped as a receptionist at an environmental firm in Seattle, when the firm started growing I moved into a marketing coordinator position.

Are you interested in seeking CPSM certification; and if so, how do you expect it to benefit you?
Yes, I'd like to show validation for my years of experience!

What excites you about your work and the contribution you make?
I love helping people make the impossible happen!

What helpful tip(s) can you share with your fellow SMPS members?
Pursue all your interests, they can lead surprising places.

What is the best communications/marketing advice you've ever received?
Make sure any submission passes the "flip-through" test-when a member of a selection committee flips through the document can they quickly glean your key differentiators? Assume they won't read, only scan.

What are you currently watching on Netflix?
Black Mirror, Will & Grace, and Poldark.

If you could visit anywhere in the world you have never been, where would you go?
Greece!

What was your first real job?
Working at an answering service (before everyone had voice mail!).

What was the best concert you've ever attended?
The 1975 in Austin, Texas.

If you could learn anything, what would it be?
Chess.

If you could change your name, what would it be and why?
Veronica, because I like it (& I love the show Veronica Mars).
