Title: Business Development Specialist

Firm: Balfour Beatty Construction

SMPS Chapter: South Florida

Why did you join SMPS?

I want to expand my network since I am new to my business development position. I have heard many good things about SMPS and thought this would be a great place to start.

What is the most important thing you’ve gained from joining SMPS?

I’ve already begun to expand my network! I have also learned some valuable tips to improve business development and marketing strategies.

How did you get into the A/E/C industry?

I handled construction related matters as a litigation attorney prior to becoming a Business Development Specialist for Balfour Beatty Construction.

What excites you about your work and the contribution you make?

I enjoy meeting new people and learning how we can work together to make our community an even better place to work and live. It’s exciting to contribute to establishing or strengthening client relationships that can lead to winning work.

What is one thing that might surprise people to know about you?

I was a member of the first women’s varsity water polo team for the University of Michigan and served as a co-captain during my senior year.  Because I’m not comfortable talking about myself, our marketing director insisted I also include that fact that I was one of two Wolverines to score a hat trick in a game which we won…it was a really exciting team achievement!

If you could learn anything what would it be?

I would like to be fluent in Spanish.  I have limited working knowledge of the language from growing up in Miami.

What is the last book (or newspaper, magazine) you read?

I always try to mix serious books with light-hearted books.  The last book I read was Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.  Before that, I read Unbroken, which was incredibly well written but difficult to get through because I cannot imagine enduring what Louie did as a prisoner of war.

What is your favorite book or movie and why?

I enjoy many things, so I do not think I have one favorite of anything. Even if I were to name one book or movie, I would probably change my mind after I send the email. If you are a Libra, you probably understand. Libras are indecisive.

When you were little, who was your favorite superhero and why?

I could not recall having a favorite superhero when I was younger, so I reached out to my mom.  She replied, “I don’t remember any super heroes, but you loved Strawberry Shortcake and Hello Kitty.”

How do you enjoy your free time?

Spending time with family and friends.
