Why did you join SMPS?

The decision to join was influenced by two factors: The quality of the programs offered and the network of talented and dedicated professionals involved the organization.

What is the most important thing you’ve gained from joining SMPS?

Relevant content. SMPS offers members and non-members industry specific information related to trends and best practices. When you are a marketer in such a niche sector, it is important to have a handle on what is going on in the industry.

How did you get into the A/E/C industry?

It was actually quite unintentional. I am a recovering science major who discovered that my strengths are more aligned with communications than biology. So, I changed my major to English Literature thinking that I would go into teaching or public relations and even entertained the idea of law school. Long story short, I ended up at a boutique architectural firm in Coral Gables while I continued my studies. I knew nothing about architecture or the industry except that I liked to look at and photograph interesting buildings. In a short time, my interest in the industry grew, and luckily, the principal of the firm took a chance on me. My role evolved from administrative assistant to marketing coordinator. I began working on proposals, writing copy, coordinating events, etc… The rest is history, it has been more than a decade since that serendipitous turn of events and I haven’t looked back.

What excites you about your work and the contribution you make?

I really love that even though I do not have a technical background in architecture or engineering, I can contribute to the success of the firm. I appreciate being involved in strategic planning, crafting tailored content and collaborating with the brightest minds in industry to deliver winning proposals and presentations…it is all extremely gratifying!

What is one thing that might surprise people to know about you?

I am an avid concert goer! My husband and I have traveled across the country to see some of our favorite bands play. For us, music + travel = happiness.

If you could learn anything what would it be?

This is a tough question, because there isn’t any one thing I’d choose learning over another. So here is part of my bucket list…How to sail, speak French and Italian, and scuba dive.

What is the last book (or newspaper, magazine) you read?

Divine Comedy by Dante.

What is your favorite book or movie and why?

The Secret Garden. Even though I read it in middle school, it remains at the top of my list. It really is a moving story about the human experience.

When you were little, who was your favorite superhero and why?

Then, today and always, my mother! Her unrelenting optimism and dedication to our family is worthy of my admiration.

How do you enjoy your free time?

Free time these days means enjoying every spare moment with my two children and husband. I also enjoy traveling, reading a good novel, and being outdoors.
