Why did you join SMPS?

I joined SMPS when I started out in the A/E business to establish a connection with other marketing and business development professionals representing the design and building industry.

What is the most important thing you’ve gained from joining SMPS?

The most important thing that I have gained from joining SMPS is valuable local and regional business contacts. Through these relationships I have received helpful insight from various SMPS members and business opportunities for the firm I work for.

How did you get into the A/E/C industry?

After I graduated from college, I struggled to find a job in my home state of West Virginia. During this time period, a childhood friend moved to Florida to work at a full service A/E firm that needed to fill a position requiring my skill set. I interviewed with the company and was offered the job. I had two months to relocate to Florida, but my toddler and I arrived five days later.

What excites you about your work and the contribution you make?

What excites me the most about my work is contributing to the success of the firm I work for. The company I have worked for since 2003 was acquired by a large firm a few years ago. Learning about additional services that the parent company offers and getting to know the key team members have also presented a challenging yet exciting element to my job.

What is one thing that might surprise people to know about you?

I don’t enjoy shopping (unless it is for other people) or talking on the phone/texting after a long day at work.

If you could learn anything what would it be?

Over time I have forgotten how to play musical instruments and, for the most part, how to speak German. I would like to learn these skills again. I also have a need for speed so I would love to learn how to drive a race car.

What is the last book (or newspaper, magazine) you read?

We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. They author provides a unique definition of what feminism means today.

What is your favorite book or movie and why?

My favorite book is The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and my favorite movie is the adaptation of the novel. I admit that I initially watched the movie as a young girl because I had a crush on some of the actors; however, I was very touched by the powerful characters and the profound story line.

When you were little, who was your favorite superhero and why?

Isis was my favorite superhero when I was a child.  She was a science teacher who found an ancient mystical gold amulet on an archeological dig in Egypt. Not only was Isis intelligent, pretty, and had a cool outfit and accessories, she also had several superpowers including flying, walking through walls, superhuman strength and speed, and control over the elements.

How do you enjoy your free time?

I enjoy spending time with my daughter and relaxing in front of the TV when I have free time.
